Mandla ‘smition’Mokoena was born in Dennilton, (Elandsdoorn) Mpumalanga, SOUTH AFRICA on the 23rd of June 1989; He was raised in Witbank where his music career took off.
He started as a KWAITO artist in a group at the age of 12 years, but felt that his talents could not be expressed in that particular group. In 2007 he participated in a competition in WITBANK hosted by SILKOUR of SKWATTA KAMP to have new HIP HOP artists in his VENTILATION VOL.2 MIXTAPE. He was knocked out in the Semi-finals of the competition.
.He later moved back to the township of his birth, Elandsdoorn to focus on his high school studies but amidst that he pursued his music passion in his spare time.IN 2009 he released a solo album called ‘MY FIRST EPISODE’ which didn’t do well due to the lack of funds.
Most of his music performances are with NDLOVU AIDS AWRENESS PROGRAM (www.ndlovu.com ) which is a DUTCH government funded initiative attached to NDOVU CARE GROUP that spreads messages of awareness about HIV/ AIDS in farms, schools and surrounding communities at large. On the weekend of World Aids Day in 2008 he shared the stage with The JAZIEL BROTHERS, MIMI and Sisco TEE. He also shared the stage with DJ Cleo on 27th April 2009 in KWA- Mhlanga. His first music video for his single `SENZA KASO` was shot in Elandsdoorn- February 2009 as a Gift by a film crew of Green eye monster from Germany which came to make to a documentary about AIDS Projects spearheaded by NDLOVU CARE GROUP.
It was shot as a gift to him for free (can be watched on – www.youtube.com - type in, smition, kaso).In 2010 he got a part in a movie called ‘LIFE ABOVE ALL ‘which features LERATO MVELASE,HARRIET MANAMELA,MARY TWALA,RAMI CHUENE,KGOMOTSO MANYAKA,PATRICK SHAI,THEMBA NDABA.THE movie was directed by OLIVER SCHMITZ and it was screened in the Un certain regard section of the 2010 Cannes film festival and the film was selected as the south African entry for the best foreign language film at 83rd academy awards and made the final shortlist announced in January 2011.the film was adapted from the novel CHANDA’S secrets 2004 by Allan Stratton.it was picked up for release in the united states by Sony pictures classics. In 2012 he released a radio single which features the ‘QEEN OF NDEBELE MUSIC and SATMA WINNER NOTHEMBI MKHEBANI’ to create hype for his upcoming album ‘ONE DAY IS ONE DAY’. The single was in high rotation on IKWEKWEZI FM,EMALAHLENI FM,GREATER MIDDLEBURG FM,MOUTSE FM,MASHISHING FM,LIGWALAGWALA FM,TUT FM,SOSHANGUVE FM.ON 06th APRIL 2013 IKWEKWEZI FM hosted a birth day bash celebration and they invited him to perform and he shared the stage with the likes of BIG NUZ,PROFESSOR,DR MALINGA,QEENS OF DANCE,DJ TIRA,OSKIDO,DJ ZINHLE.He was also featured in the album and DVD of the late SATMA winner NOPINKI MASOMBUKA.
In His Album ` ONE DAY IS ONE DAY` which features the QEEN OF NDEBELE MUSIC and the SATMA WINNER ‘NOTHEMBI MKHWEBANI,KRUNA who also worked with the award winning group SKWATTA KAMP, SISCO TEE,THULIBATHI,KC,BLACK ROSE.
